Thermal Insulation

It is the modern way of thermal insulation on the facades on both old and new buildings. With the thermal insulation system you gain less energy consumption all year round, while the top quality plaster used, do not crack and offer total waterproofing of the facades from open air humidity and from rain water. The colors do not chip away since the final coating is colored in its original form.

The most energy saving transformation in buildings is the application of external thermal insulation. Taking under consideration that in our country 6 out of 10 buildings are without insulation and out of the rest that are insulated there’s a significant percentage of which are with faulty insulation, a new and complete package of external thermal insulation may finally reduce energy consumption by up to 60%. Another advantage is the protection of the building from thermal changes and humidity vapor concentration. It stops the thermal bridges and uses the thermal capacity of the costruction’s materials, thus ensuring that the inside of the building has a more comfortable atmosphere. You also save functional space inside, since the whole system is applied externally. This way, in new buildings there is no need building double external walls in order to insert the insulation material in between. It is an ideal way of restoring and insulating existing buildings. It also has the advantage of not disrupting the functionallity of the building while having the application under way.

The total energy saving that occurs by using internal or external insulation, compared to that of a building without it is in the margin of 24-65%. In particular to the energy consumption regarding heating, the accomplished saving is most significant. The application of external insulation generally leads to greater energy saving (by 4%-9%) compared to internal insulation application.

External Insulation Application Method

Using tile adhesive the thermal expanded polysterene plates are attached to the external side of the building. The thickness of those plates varies depending on the energy saving percentage we want to accomplish (3cm-10cm) and the insulation plan. The expanded polysterene is the most suitable thermal insulation material for all external insulation systems and is universaly the most popular in its field of applications. It is suitable for all climate zones and for any insulation systems that may be chosen. After the plates are istalled, plugs are also installed, so as to strengthen the construction against earthquakes and wind pressure. Following that, the whole surface is covered with an elastic plaster coating while a grid is intergraded so there is total protection against cracks. The finishing coating may be colored or palin white, while there is a variety of choises in attractive finishing styles such as smooth, grafiato, and in acrylic or silicone base, the latter offering the excellent building materials ventilation.

Internal Insulation Application Method

The internal thermal insulation is the most strongly advised solution for older buildings where in no time and with a low cost, the total value of the building rises. The coating of the external walls is with thermal insulation panels of extruded polysterine or highly concentrated expanded polysterine, and after being attached are covered with special plaster. The thickness of the thermal insulation tiles is confined because it takes up space of the internal part of the building (0.60-2cm). The internal thermal insulation is a oneway solution when the application of the external insulation is practically impossible or is not allowed (traditional buildings or settlements). It also has the significant advantage that it can be applied on apartment buildings, where each landlord can insulate his own apartment with low cost, upgrading it by one enegy class, without having to ask for approvement of the rest of the landlords. In many cases, internal thermal insulation provides solutions to buildings with no insulation and are attached to each other, and in dense structure neighborhoods as in big cities’ centers and insulation on separate rooms in such apartments. Becausee of the quick results in both heating and cooling a house, it is also recommended for country houses and office buildings as well.

There is no doubt that each solution has its pros and cons, but depending on what we want to accomplish, there are many choices that can lead to greater energy saving in our space.
